The Calibration Card

Every target number in the course on one page. Phase 1 is complete; Phases 2 and 3 fill in as those lessons land.

๐Ÿ–จ Designed to printโ€ข โ†ป Grows with each phaseโ€ข Reference
โ–ฒ Never mix these two

MK3S = Marlin. Linear Advance, M900 K, values ~0.02โ€“0.08 for a 0.4 nozzle.
MK4S / Core One = Buddy. Pressure Advance, M572 S.
Different features, different scales, no conversion between them. One profile per printer family.

1The order โ€” never out of sequence

Changing any step voids every measurement below it.
#StepWhy it sits here
0The machine (Phase 1)Everything below measures filament plus machine
1TemperatureSets viscosity โ€” moves every number below it
2Extrusion multiplierMeasured at the temperature just fixed
3Pressure / Linear AdvancePressure depends on viscosity and flow
4RetractionOoze depends on residual pressure, which advance changed
5CoolingModifies temperature's effect after the nozzle
6Max volumetric speedDepends on temperature; silently clamps speeds
7Speeds and accelerationsBounded by all of the above โ€” and can send you back to 3

The one legitimate loop back: advance must be tuned at production accelerations. Print the advance tower with your real quality profile loaded, not a slow one.

4The arithmetic

The extrusion equation
volumetric flow (mmยณ/s) = layer height ร— extrusion width ร— print speed

# rearranged, to find the speed that saturates a given flow
speed = flow รท (layer height ร— extrusion width)

# extrusion multiplier, from a measured single wall
new EM = current EM ร— (nominal wall width รท measured wall width)

# total flow is the product of two independent scalars
total flow = M221 (firmware, %) ร— extrusion multiplier (slicer)
Practical flow ceilings, 0.4 mm nozzle โ€” starting figures, to be replaced by measurements.
Machinemmยณ/sNote
MK3S~11โ€“13the slow machine โ€” accept 45โ€“60 mm/s perimeters
MK4S~22โ€“28MK4S hotend; bedslinger, so motion limits before flow does
Core One~22โ€“28same hotend class as the MK4S; CoreXY, so it can actually use it

5Phase 2 starting values โ€” 0.4 nozzle, 0.2 mm layer

โš  Entry points, not answers

Every number below is where you start a measurement, not where you stop. Compare against the stock Prusa system profile for that printer before deviating โ€” if a value here differs a lot from stock, trust stock and tune from there. Core One chamber figures are community consensus, not Prusa specification.

6Method rules

The habits, compressed.
RuleBecause
One variable between two test printsTwo changes give a result you can't attribute โ€” worse than none, because it feels like data
Banded test prints over separate printsSame spool, nozzle, hour and humidity โ€” only the variable differs
Dry the filament firstMoisture makes prints non-reproducible, which corrupts temp, flow and retraction at once
Tune advance at production speedA slow-test value over-compensates and starves corners at real speed
Delete test G-code afterwardsIt lives in the printer profile and keeps firing on unrelated prints forever
Log printer, spool, colour, datePigment changes flow within a brand; an unlogged number is indistinguishable from a guess
Snap the part to judge bondingGranular fracture = fused. Clean plane along a layer = laminated. Surface tells you nothing

Three prints: dimensional cube (ยฑ0.15 mm, and X must agree with Y) ยท overhang/bridge/stringing combo ยท a real part of your own. Elephant foot compensation last โ€” Print Settings โ†’ Advanced, ~0.2 mm for a 0.4 nozzle. Record the scope: material, machine, speeds, enclosure state, date.

Log every value (m) measured or (i) inherited. Record date, printer, spool including colour, and when it was dried. A profile of (i) values is a hypothesis; a profile of (m) values is a measurement.

โŒ Complete as of 2026-08-05

All four phases are on this card. What it deliberately does not carry is your own measurements โ€” those live in tuning-log.md and in the profiles themselves. When one of your measured numbers disagrees with a starting value here, your number wins; this page is where you began, not where you ended up. Fuller context in the original guide.
